FAQ's
I have an old AGM/Gel batteryin my boat/Caravan/existing solar system, what do I need to change to replaceit with a LiFePO4 battery.
In many cases the answer is NOTHING, or maybe a simple setting on your existing charging system, as Melitech Energy LiFePO4 batteries are a direct replacement to AGM/Gel batteries for most applications as they have very similar charging/discharge characteristics, meaning they can be directly replaced without the need to change your hardware. Do make sure that your charging system has current limiting capability as LiFePO4 battery will suck as much current as they can get, and they can damage charging systems that do not limit the current.
LiFePO4 batteries are too expensive. Why should I buy it?
Longer Lifespan
LiFePO4 batteries typically offer a significantly longer lifespan compared to AGM/Gel batteries. They can endure 2000-5000 charge cycles before their capacity falls to 80% of the original, whereas AGM/Gel batteries might offer around 500-1000 cycles under similar conditions.
Higher Efficiency
LiFePO4 batteries have a higher charge and discharge efficiency, which can exceed 95%. This is much higher than the typical efficiency of AGM/Gel batteries, making LiFePO4 more effective for the same energy input.
Better Depth of Discharge (DoD)
LiFePO4 batteries can be regularly discharged to 80% or more of their capacity without significant damage, whereas AGM/Gel batteries typically recommend a DoD of only 50% to prolong their life.
Lighter Weight
LiFePO4 batteries are much lighter than AGM/Gel batteries of the same capacity. This makes them an excellent choice for mobile applications where weight is a critical factor, such as in RVs, boats, and off-grid solar applications.
Safer Chemistry
LiFePO4 batteries are generally considered safer than AGM/Gel batteries because they are more stable chemically and less prone to issues like thermal runaway, making them a safer choice for home energy storage and vehicle applications.
Faster Charging
Due to their higher charge efficiency, LiFePO4 batteries can be charged much faster than AGM/Gel batteries. This is particularly beneficial in applications where batteries need to be quickly recharged between uses.
Lower Self-Discharge Rate
LiFePO4 batteries have a very low self-discharge rate, significantly lower than that of AGM/Gel batteries. This means they can be stored for longer periods without needing a recharge to maintain their charge state.
Wide Operating Temperature Range
LiFePO4 batteries can operate effectively over a broader temperature range compared to AGM/Gel batteries. This makes them suitable for use in a wider variety of environments, from very cold to very hot.
Which one is more expensive?
If you say that LiFePO4batteries can last even up to 10years, why should I pay more for a 5-yearguarantee?
Yes, LiFePO4 batteries can last many years if they are not mishandled, but defects do happen, sometimes for no apparent reason. With a small fee you can put your mind at rest that if a defect appears within the 5-year period, you are covered. Willing to take the risk? No problem, we still have you covered for 3 years at no extra cost.
NOTE: The guarantee is not an insurance and does not cover you for damages being intentional or by accident. What the guarantee covers though is any manufacturing defects which may come out at a later stage, and which were not the result of the user’s neglect.
