    Solar energy is a fantastic way to get power anywhere the sun shines. It works great but only when the sun is out, so it’s critical to have the best battery possible for storing solar energy. LiFePO4 battery chemistry is one of the best options for solar storage for a number of reasons:
        
  • Long lifetime: Typically over 3000 charge/discharge cycles and much higher if not used to its limits, which means the battery will last much longer than traditional Lead Acid/AGM batteries which tend to have a 200 - 700 charge cycle at just 50% discharge.    
  • Very stable discharge voltage, means the battery voltage is stable over its whole discharge cycle. (see discharge curve)    
  • Integrated battery management controls that the battery can never be overcharged, or over-discharged and protects against overcurrent

    There aren’t many drawbacks to LiFePO4 batteries other than the initial upfront cost which is only around 50% higher than a quality AGM battery of equivalent size, but with better performance and much higher lifetime.
